Every Day Is Earth Day
by Teresa Jennings
Every Day Is Earth Day is a musical revue which can be performed with one class or the entire school. It is very flexible and can be adapted for use with your particular situation very easily. The basic format of the revue is designed for all-school participation and includes speaking parts and ideas for a large group of students. The parts can be divided as they are, or you can combine two or more lines for presentation by one student. Many of the lines could also be either eliminated or embellished upon, based on your performance needs. There are no rules.
NOTE: The songs and lyric sheets, as well as performance suggestions and options, for "Every Day Is Earth Day" and "Recycle Rap" can be found in Music K-8, Volume 1/ Number 1 (September/October, 1990).
OPENING SONG - Every Day Is Earth Day.
During the song all of the children are either entering the stage while singing or are already gathered on the stage in a mass formation. Each child (or several children) could be holding a small globe or picture of the earth. Or, a large representation of the earth, either a globe or an "earth graphic" of some type can be featured front and center. If this is the case, let several students "hold it in their hands," as the song suggests, if possible. Afterwards, the earth can be used for a prop, backdrop, or reference during performance.
