Recycle Rap
by Teresa Jennings
Besides the creation of recycled rhythm instruments and optional written accompaniment for them (as well as Orff instruments), you will find other ideas for the performance of this rap in the Sept./Oct. issue. The most important thing to remember is that raps are contemporary for your students and the movement ideas they come up with are going to be the best ideas. Give them lots of encouragement for creativity.
If you use the rhythm accompaniments and choreography in the rap, it will be pretty busy, so practice is very important. Make sure the students understand that each part of the performance has its own time to be the most important element and that other times, other elements need to be more prominent. Now is as good a time as any to discuss "upstaging."
