My Vampire Buddies
by Teresa Jennings
Seems like you can't swing a bat without hitting a vampire these days. Not ones to ignore popular culture, we couldn't resist inventing our own contribution to the cause with this tongue-in-cheek "buddy song." Pipe organ, wolves, theremin - this one has it all. Just add fangs and you're set.
Our singers had a terrific time with this, as you can probably hear on the recording. They particularly enjoyed telling the story (enunciate!) and overdoing it with the spooky melodrama. Especially at the chorus (bar 27), a bit of zeal is called for, so let them wail (so to speak). The ending should be paid particular attention to, as it decreases in volume as it goes, and the words are important to the story. If you use this in performance, try not to let your singers preview the punch line if they can help it. (Good luck with that.) Giving a cue might help.
