Snowman Choir
by David & Anne Ellsworth
Here's a really "cool" song for your holiday or winter performances. Imagination and music combine to form a lively narrative that also allows for movement, costumes, and your very own "snowman choir." The verses are structured so that you can sing a phrase, do a little moving, sing another phrase, do some more moving, and so on. And if you use this with young singers, you can bet that will be easy for them to do!
The "snowman choir" enters as a duet with the rest of your singers at the chorus (m. 13) each time. This is optional, but if you want your snowmen to actually sing, we do have an extracted part for them available online. They can also pretend to sing, or they can sing along with our snowmen on the recording. If you prefer to have the tracks without our snowmen, we have that, too! It's also available online. (See details on page 82.)
In a performance venue, consider dressing your snowmen in carrot noses, scarves, top hats, etc., for a classic snowman look. Or go for more unique costuming - contemporary, seasonal, whatever you like. In the interest of continuing the focus on imagination, let students help plan the costumes and movements.
