Ready To Start The Day!
by Teresa Jennings
If you're looking for a way to get the blood flowing at the start of your classes, try this one out. Set to a lively swinging jazz background, the vocal parts are quite simple, easy to remember, and fun to move to. In fact, the movement is the key to making it work well. Since most of the words are describing an action, it's easy enough to just let kids do those actions. For any that seem to suggest interpretation or nuance, you can either let each student move freely, or decide as a group how to do things. For example, do you tap your toe during the quarter rest, or while singing about doing it, or a combination of both? Do you tap it on the floor, or do you tap it with your hand, or maybe with your other foot? When you give a grin, do you just smile? Or maybe you pretend to take that smile and hand it to someone. See? Imagination can play an active part here! In any event, energy is key, so keep it upbeat and active, and get ready to start the day!
