Burn More Than You Eat
by Teresa Jennings
Seems basic, doesn't it? From the time we first hear that there is such a thing as a calorie, we also hear that eating too many of them is not good for us. With weight issues taking the spotlight in schools across the country, it might be time for a refresher course in the basics.
The song, "Burn More Than You Eat" lends itself nicely to this goal, and with great enthusiasm, we might add. The retro rock 'n' roll style is campy and fun to sing. (And if you're old enough, you might hear a bit of an homage to the Beatles in there. Early Beatles, that is.) The optional claps help the energy stay up and give the piece some movement. It also feels natural.
Part 2, which is optional, can be treated like a true second part with many singers. Or you could make it more of a background vocal thing. Select only a few singers for this and have them isolated, singing into a microphone (real or not) in performance. Put them in costumes circa 1962-64-ish for some added amusement.
