Valentine Friend
by John Riggio
Here's a lighthearted tune to celebrate Valentine's Day! It's fun and easy to sing with an infectious chorus that puts a twist on the notion of asking, "Will you be my Valentine?" It puts the emphasis on friendship, the idea that friends are there for each other, speak the truth to one another, and that with friends, "joys multiply" and "sorrows divide." Those are good concepts to learn and good standards to strive for as we grow up.
This is a piece that benefits from using the accompaniment recording, seeing as how it starts with synth, and our rhythm guys did such a great job on the tracks. Be sure to turn it up nice and loud!
In performance, your class could bring blank Valentine cards and exchange them during the chorus. It's okay if they get passed back and forth a few times, as it gets the idea across in a fun way.
