We Love Our Pets
by Teresa Jennings
As you might expect, if there is to be a revue about animals, there simply must be a segment devoted to pets. Whether they are common pets like cats, dogs, or birds, or more uncommon ones like lizards, horses, or ducks, the fact remains: We love our pets!
In order to be inclusive of all of your singers, even the very youngest, we have made this song pretty easy. The verse repeats exactly, as does the chorus, and the bridge is simple and short. Plus, it's all in unison. The style is also fun and familiar – sort of a retro-ish pop feel with a bit of a Latin undercurrent.
If you use the song in performance, it might be cute to have kids holding stuffed toy animals while they sing. To make it more personal, they could hold up pictures of their own pets instead. They could even move them around during the song with their own picture or toy choreography, if you like. Keep it simple, like bouncing during the chorus. It will still be effective.
(Note: If you decide you want to do a "pets day" as part of your animal studies, be sure to get permission and clearance from your school first. There is most likely a policy about what kind/size of animal can be brought to school – or not.)
