Peppermint Candy Cane
by Teresa & Paul Jennings
A candy cane is a delightfully fun and familiar symbol of the season, equally at home in a Christmas program or a more general holiday one. And while these days, all kinds of candy canes are available in all kinds of flavors and colors, the most beloved remains the classic red and white peppermint version.
This bouncy tune praises that delectable sweet treat in such a way that even your youngest singers will be able to join in. It's very repetitious, with simple lyrics that are easy to remember. (Note: If you prefer to avoid saying "Christmas" in your program, use the alternate lyrics in bar 15 instead.)
Dancing canes? - Once again, you will find some great ideas for adding movement to your performance, thanks to the creative talents of our choreographer, Melissa Schott. You will find her video which includes a full demonstration as well as step-by-step instructions on our web site. A PDF of her teaching notes is available as well. As always, she encourages you to adapt her ideas in any way that suits your young performers better.
