Friends Like You
by Karl Hitzemann
Wouldn't it be great if we could all be just a bit friendlier to each other? The world would certainly be a better place. Yes, that is easier-said-than-done, but at least it's a nice way of thinking. And it's a wonderful concept to try and pass along to our younger generations. The song "Friends Like You" sets out to do just that. It's a feel-good, easy-going song that says simply, "the world needs more friends like you."
This song is fairly easy to learn and your singers will probably pick it up rather quickly. There is a second vocal part beginning in the coda and going to the end. It's basically just the melody from the beginning of the piece, but it sounds really cool when sung underneath the refrain. While it is optional, it does add a nice touch (and a little extra challenge).
The recorded accompaniment features piano, electric and acoustic guitars, electric bass, and strings. Be sure to listen for the neat feature the strings have starting the third time at measure 5. We have also provided you with a very playable piano part and guitar chords. So, you do have the option of a totally live performance with piano, guitar, or whatever combination you have at your disposal.
This song would work very nicely for Valentine's Day, but it could also be used in just about any concert setting as a fun, yet meaningful tribute to friends everywhere.
