Hosanna!
by Karl Hitzemann
This high-spirited original tune is sure to enliven all who sing and hear it. Written for the Easter season (Palm Sunday, specifically), "Hosanna!" gives you the option of beginning the song with a soloist. You could also use just two singers or even a small group, if you prefer. That way, you have the opportunity to showcase one or more of your stronger performers. The melody is simple and easy to learn – perfect for younger choirs, or when you don't have a lot of time to rehearse.
We understand that not all schools will be able to sing a song that has sacred lyrics like this. And for that reason, we are also providing you with an additional set of lyrics (see below) that use more Latin words, so the sacred nature of the song is more subdued. The recorded accompaniment features a rousing full orchestra, and if you're just not able to sing any of these lyrics, you might consider using the track as a processional or recessional. You could simply have your choir sing "lu" as they enter or depart.
Hosanna! Hosanna! Let the children sing Hosanna!
Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna in excelsis.
Hosanna! Hosanna! Let the children sing Hosanna!
Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna in excelsis.
Sing Hosanna from everywhere.
North, south, east, and west.
Sing Hosanna, sing it loud.
Hosanna in the highest! In the highest!
Hosanna! Hosanna! Let the children sing Hosanna!
Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna in excelsis.
Hosanna in the highest! In the highest! Hosanna!
