Hope 2
by David & Anne Ellsworth
You know your classroom children and what they can do and what they need to hear. One character education moment that can occur in any setting, especially the classroom, is the opportunity to give students hope and encouragement, to tell them they can do it, they are capable, and that they can choose their behavior. The song "Hope 2" aims to help kids do just that. It encourages positive self talk that turns inward as well as outward, using "I," "you," and "we" in conjunction with the act of choosing.
Besides bringing a message of hope, literally, this song offers an opportunity for movement and dance, given its cool synthesized groove. Whether you use it in a performance or just in the classroom, invite students to create their own movements. And be sure to acknowledge their contributions in a positive, hopeful way.
