Hola De Nuevo
by Mike Wilson
If you'd like to add a little Spanish/English to your repertoire, here is a welcome back to school song titled "Hola De Nuevo" (Hello Again). The Spanish and triplet rhythms make this most suitable to your middle grades. The structure is pretty simple: intro, A, B, A, outro. And it is a unison song, so you can focus on the pronunciation. We used a standard rhythm section, traditional Latin percussion and a string section to round out this arrangement.
You will notice an alternate lyric line in measures 33- 35. The original lyrics are meant to be tongue-in-cheek, using a fake Spanish word, "comprehendo" (for the sake of rhyme and syntax) following the practice often seen of simply adding an "o" to the end of any English word to "make it Spanish." If you or any of your students find it the least bit offensive, by all means, use the alternate lyric which uses the proper form of the word "comprendo."
Of course, if you have kids who speak Spanish as a first language in your choir, use them as a reference for pronunciation. Otherwise, we have included a pronunciation guide on our web site for your convenience. (See details on page 68.)
