We Share America
by Teresa Jennings
This upbeat, happy pop song starts out with a folksy vibe that incorporates guitars and mandolin. But gradually throughout the song, it becomes more symphonic with a marching rock beat to groove it along. Make sure students give it an appropriate amount of energy for that "big finish" effect you want for a revue ending. We've certainly done our part on the recording with all of the brass, strings, percussion, and chimes, so crank up that volume!
Lyrically, the tune reminds us that there are many things (places in this case) we love about America that we can and do share. While the song lists quite a few of them, there are so many more. We chose to focus on locations, including geographic destinations for our purposes. But you are free to alter the words to include anything at all you and your students wish to include in the "sharing" category, including different towns or cities or even things (baseball, fireworks, and so on).
The entire song is in unison with the exception of a little bit of divisi at the end, which is optional. This will hopefully ensure total inclusion of all of your students in the finale. Also toward that goal, if you find it easier, you could have singers just repeat the first two verses on the D.S. for less memorization.
