If I Were A Reindeer
by Teresa & Paul Jennings
If you were a reindeer, where would you be? What would you do? These and other burning questions are asked and answered in this extremely fun, hard-swinging song. All unison, it just sounds more sophisticated because of the driving big band playing in the background on the recording. Let your kids listen and sing along with ours to get a good idea of not just style, but also feel. Those triplet based swinging eighth notes are probably easier to imitate than explain. And be sure you let your kids belt it out if they're so inclined. As Christmas lore goes, being a reindeer is something to be excited about. And if you're using this in performance, consider adding a few "antlers" to your costumes for the right spirit.
Hoofin' anyone? - Apparently our choreographer, Melissa Schott, felt the urge to get in touch with her inner reindeer for this issue. To help your own little hoofers, she came up with movement ideas you can use in your performance or just for the fun of it. As always, feel free to adapt any way you like (simpler or harder), or use exactly as she designed them. You will find a video which includes her full demonstration as well as detailed instructions on our web site, MusicK8.com A PDF of her teaching notes is available as well.
