Simple Machines
by John Riggio
This song was by request! John has written a few tunes with simple orchestrations that usually involve an upright bass and archtop guitar. Since the topic was simple machines, he thought he would do a simple orchestration, with a bit of simple slapstick percussion thrown in for some simple fun!
Lever, pulley, wheel and axle, screw, wedge, and inclined plane. Simple machines are mechanical devices that are used to modify force and motion, and they help us do things more easily. With the exception of the wheel and axle, they have no moving parts. In this song your students will sing the names of all six simple machines, and define their purpose, which is great for cross curricular learning! So, the next time the science teacher is going over simple machines, you're all set!
