Mis Abuelos
by Mike Wilson
Who thinks you're the greatest thing in the world? Who always has your back? Whose job is it to spoil you and who would rather spend time with you than anyone else? Your grandparents, of course! Here's a song to recognize just how awesome your grandparents are. It's written in easy Spanish, in that each verse is the same with one lyric change. Verse one is simply translated as "My grandparents like to dance with me." Verses two, three, and four translate respectively, "My grandparents like to sing, play, be with me." The la la la's translate to la la la. But you've probably worked that out on your own. It wraps up with "I love my grandparents."
This song is very upbeat and invites an enthusiastic vocal approach. The more energy you can draw out of your kids, the better the presentation will be… especially during the la la la choruses. Remember for those of us who don't speak Spanish as a first language, it seems to come off more authentically if you sing it with a smile on your face.
A pronunciation guide is provided on our web site. However, if you have Spanish speaking children in your choir, let them be your guide.
To add even more fun (more?!), you could invite your beginning ukulele and/or guitar students to strum along, too. They only need three chords: G, D, and C. The parts, including diagrams, are on the piano score, and we have also extracted them and put them online to just grab and print out as well.
