Hats

by John Riggio

Hats are a massively useful invention. They keep the sun and rain off our noggins, they keep us warm in the winter, and sometimes a hat is a fashion statement. Whatever your reason you're wearing one, for every season there's a hat!

John has a knack for writing list songs as well as happy songs, and this song has you covered on both counts! This song lists a ton of hats. The melody is easy to sing – mostly quarter notes, and as usual we've included a melody guide on our accompaniment tracks to help your singers. If there is a challenge for vocalists, it would be the last five bars of the tune, where hats are listed in rapid-fire succession. You can either try it in one breath or stagger breathe that section.

And how does one perform this song? With hats, of course! Have your students perform in all manor of hats – cowboy hats, baseball hats, wide brim hats, fedoras, and so on. You can also add or substitute others perhaps not mentioned in the song. This will add a bit of visual fun for your audience.
