Turkey At The Disco
by Tom & Lynn Crowell
Every now and then, we'll see turkeys near Plank Road Publishing. They're not the most graceful birds, but they are magnificent. Could you imagine what it would look like if they suddenly started disco dancing? Bell-bottom pants and platform shoes on a turkey? This truly would be a funny sight! So naturally, we wrote a song about it.
Discuss some popular disco dance moves with your students. Disco may have started long ago, but everyone knows the "Single Point" move: Push hips to one side, and opposite index finger pointed up in the air to the other side. While keeping the finger pointed, swing the arm down across the body diagonally, and at the same time, push hips to the other side. Many students may also be familiar with dances like the "Electric Slide," "The Hustle," and "The Bus Stop."
In the song, there is a breakdown after the second chorus, where we have the "spoken" section. Students should be overly enthusiastic so the energy keeps the song staying alive. (Get it?) In this section, join in with the hand claps so they can really have fun with it.
We think your kids will have a blast with this. Your biggest conundrum may be whether to use costumes of turkeys or disco dancers or both!
