My Little Happy Heart
by Teresa Jennings
While this sweet, bouncy little tune is the perfect song for your youngest singers to sing at Valentine's Day given its heart theme, it does not say so specifically. So you could use it any time, in class or in a production.
You will see that it is played through three times. The first and third times, it is sung as is. The second time, kids do not sing, but rather shout the word "happy" where each time it occurs instead. A bass clarinet takes over the melody on the recording to help them know where they are. It's not just a good exercise in focus, it's also a given "awww" moment for your audience. Have kids put their hands on their hearts, hold heart cut-outs, or make heart shapes with their fingers and hands for added interest.
