Our Grands Are Grand

by Teresa Jennings

This short, simple song is the perfect way to let all the grandparents in your audience know they are loved and appreciated, especially on Grandparents' Day! Set in a cheerful and enthusiastic country bluegrass style, it's an easy piece to learn, especially if you use the recording. There is also a second part, which is optional and gives older students a chance to participate. But of course, the song works as a unison piece. In fact, we have included a unison version as well as the usual rehearsal track for part 2 with our online extras.

You will note that there is an optional part for Boomwhackers® on this piece, too. Those colorful tubes will add a little pizzazz and movement to your performance, not to mention show off yet another musical skill set of your students. On our web site, you will find the Boomwhackers part PDF and a full version of the song that does not include Boomwhackers in case that is useful to you.

Sign language is grand!

We are very happy to introduce our new sign language expert and contributor, Nate Jones. Nate has taught a variety of elementary music, high school choir, band, and sign language classes for over 13 years. He currently teaches in Lafayette, Indiana, where he lives with his wife and three children. For his debut with Music K-8, he has come up with video demonstrations that you can use to teach sign language to your students for this song. Welcome, Nate. And thank you!

You will find all of the extras mentioned for this song, including Nate's tutorial, at our web site.
