Goin' To A *Holiday Party
by Teresa Jennings
This versatile festive rock tune can be used for your holiday programs, celebrations, and yes, parties. However, there's a lot more to it than that. First there are all of the optional extra student lines. These include Boomwhackers®, bells, jingle bells, tambourine, cowbell, hand drum, rhythm sticks, ukuleles, guitars, and body percussion. But as we said, they are optional. So you can use any, all, or none of them along with your singers. We think that once you see how easily everything works together though, you'll be inspired to include at least some of the student parts. It promises to be a neat way to combine the skills your players have been learning in a performance setting. That, plus the parts are easy and repetitive. As you would expect, we have extracted PDFs of all of them and put them online for you.
Another flexible feature of this song is the ability to turn it into a completely different subject just by replacing the word "holiday." For example, "Goin' to a birthday party," or "Goin' to a Christmas party," or "Goin' to costume party." You get the idea. The word "holiday" even appears in parentheses on the music so you can tell singers where to substitute. To further help with this, we recorded a version of this singing "hmm hmm" instead of "holiday." Plug in your own topic where the "hmm hmm's" are!
As extras go, besides the things we've already mentioned, you will find a full version with voices and body percussion, but without any of the kid instruments and a version that is only kid instruments plus drums. The latter will allow your players to rehearse together. And it just sounds cool! All of these goodies can be found on our web site.
