I Love The Lights

by Teresa Jennings

This bright Latin toe-tapper is just the thing for a program that features all things that sparkle and shine, especially during the holidays. Since it does not mention any particular occasion, you can use it any time it works for you. The accompaniment on the recording includes a marriage of rhythm, winds, and synths that inspire joy and, well, lightness.

The vocal melody is catchy, but students will need to pay attention to where they are, especially when they jump to the coda where it suddenly soars. (A perfect music lesson by the way.) To add to the excitement, there is an optional part 2 that begins at the chorus (pick-ups to bar 18) and continues from then on. At the D.S., they get to sing a punchy response to part 1 that adds to the delightful rhythmic quality. It's a lot of fun, and to help you make it happen, we have isolated the tracks for part 2 and put them on our web site. And, just in case you prefer it, we have created a unison version of the song, also on our web site. The part 2 line is covered in the instrumental accompaniment, so it still has the layers and harmonies whichever version you choose.

I Love To Dance!

As you might have expected, this tune is a great candidate for adding movement. And right on cue, our choreographer Melissa Schott has come up with some terrific ideas for you. She has included an instructional video and teaching notes that you can use with your performers as is or adapted however you like. All of the extras mentioned can be found free at our web site.
