Lemonade

by Tom & Lynn Crowell

This light and delightful song is full of relaxing summer vibes. The instrumentation has an older country feel with banjo, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and pedal steel-style electric that is reminiscent of the old 1950s and 1960s Bakersfield Sound of country music. This style of music has a slight swing to the eighth notes, and should be sung with a light bounce.

There is a simple, optional part 2 for the vocals that appears in the second verse and returns during the last chorus. At bar 22, this part echoes the lead, and overlaps the main part, so you will need to divide up the parts among your students if you use it.

This song could easily be included in a program about summertime or even food. As mentioned earlier, we have lots of other food songs to pick from, and of course, we also have many summer songs as well! A stroll through our Index should offer up some inspiration. That's at MusicK8.com Or if you're not planning to use it in a performance, just sit back and imagine Buck Owens or Merle Haggard playing their twangy guitars while you drink some refreshing lemonade! (Rockers on the front porch optional.)
