A Good Time To Have Good Manners
by Teresa & Paul Jennings
We'd like to think this song is completely self-explanatory. Or at least it should be. In a world of tension, division, anger, and misinformation, it just feels like common decency sometimes gets lost. And while we are not suggesting that good manners could solve any of these problems, surely they couldn't hurt.
This bluesy, jazzy boogie makes it easy to remember that any time is a good time for good manners. Leaning on the classics, "excuse me," "thank you," and "please," is a solid foundation. A nod to "respect" in the bridge helps with the reinforcement as well.
The song is simple and singable for most age levels, and it's all unison until the coda. At that point, there is an optional second part that echoes the first one a couple of times. Super easy.
A Good Time For Sign Language
Another reinforcement for the message of this song might be through the use of sign language. And why not? It's fun, engaging, and impressive to any audience you might have. Once again, teacher/signer Nate Jones has created video demonstrations that you can use to teach your students signs for this song. You will find these videos at our web site, free to subscribers.
We do also want to mention Paul's cool jazz arrangement of this piece. It was actually written and recorded a few years ago, waiting in our queue for the right moment to publish. It was somewhat bittersweet to work on it, as it was one of the last few arrangements Paul did. But as we have said before, we intend to keep his legacy alive by continuing to share his work with you and your students. We hope you enjoy it.
