Road Trip
by John Riggio
Road trips can be amazing. Whether you're going on an extended vacation to the beach, or a weekend up to the mountains, or visiting family wherever they live, you can make it a fun experience! You can play games, like the "License Plate Game" or "I Spy." You can listen to music or an audio book. And you get new scenery – things you don't get to see every day. Road trips can be an adventure! When John was a boy (around 140 B.C.) his folks got him a tape recorder and headphones, long before the Walkman*, the iPhone*, and playlists! But he made his own playlists and listened to them on road trips. It was entertaining and made the miles fly by.
This song is simple to sing. The vocals have no syncopation, although there is an optional divisi, but it's also simple and only sung on the repeat of the refrain "We're gonna take a road trip." Note that when it's divisi, the melody is the lower notes. We also provide synth guides for both parts on our accompaniment tracks.
You might want to ask your students: What is their ideal road trip? Like, if they could travel anywhere in a car. What games would they play? What would they like to see? This song is summery and light – perfect for your students as they head into summer vacation!
