Cheese Doodles
by Teresa Jennings
In general, we like to make our final issue of the school year a bit more light and fun (Memorial Day and emotional goodbyes notwithstanding). In fact, we often add pieces that are silly and even frothy. We daresay this doodle ditty does just that.
Written as a "cheesy" shuffle, it includes a bass clarinet bass line, a bit of ricky-tick rhythm on drums, muted brass, and woodwinds. But the real fun is the song itself that the kids get to sing. It's probably all the doodling. We found that our studio pros went around singing this one after the fact way too much. Which tells us that your kids will probably like it, too.
How can you use this piece, you ask? Um... just before snack break? Or as with any kid song with zero deeper meaning, for the pure fun of it. If you do wind up using it in a performance though, it fits in with a food subject program nicely. And yes, we do have a lot of other food subject songs. Check out our Index at MusicK8.com to see for yourself.
Here at the office, we have a co-worker friend, Liz (affectionately nicknamed LB), who absolutely loves the crunchy orange cheesy things. So of course, this song is dedicated to her!
