Magical Festive Air
by Tom & Lynn Crowell
That's right! This merry pop/rock song is about all of the colorful, seasonal inflatable decorations that we see up and down our streets every holiday. Powered with motors (electric blowers) and filled with lights, these recognizable characters and scenes of the season burst into life. They're everywhere, so we decided to write a song about them.
The fun and bouncy verse melody has a bit of syncopation to it. The accompaniment track follows the same rhythms, so it should be easy for your students to follow along.
There is an optional part 2 in the last chorus. This is a simple part with very little movement that mostly stays on a D, with an occasional E and C. It starts off as an echo to part 1, but then joins it near the end. You will find a recording of the isolated part 2 at our web site.
Fun Fact: The company that pioneered air-filled holiday decorations earned earlier fame with a kitschy singing fish. Gemmy Industries was the creator of Big Mouth Billy Bass®, released in 2000. They introduced their first air-filled holiday decoration a year later.
