Mom, You're My Star
by Teresa Jennings
The next time Mother's Day rolls around, you will be all set with this wonderfully sweet musical tribute. We daresay you might even hear a bit of sniffling coming from the audience. That's because this gentle pop tune hits all the right notes, so to speak, tugging at the heartstrings of moms everywhere.
Written to be usable with singers of just about any age, it's entirely in unison and has a catchy, memorable melody. Just let your students listen to the singers on our Performance/Accompaniment recording a couple of times, and they will catch on quickly.
Given the star theme, consider implementing a few props or decorations accordingly. Add white or colorful light strings with star shapes for special ambience. Tie a performance to your art classes by having students make star-shaped cards or other keepsakes with handwritten messages. Kids can deliver these to their mothers (or grandmothers, aunts, sisters, mother figures, etc.) as part of the occasion or separately.
