Be My Valentine-Oh!
arr. Paul Jennings
This new setting of the old favorite B-I-N-G-O can be used any of several ways. You can perform it as written, singing the song 7 times, first with all lyrics, then substituting a clap for a syllable in the "Be My Val-en-tine" phrase, adding one clap per verse. The seventh time through, sing all of the words again. This is the version you will hear on the performance side of the cassette.
If your students have done a bit more body percussion or Orff work, consider adding a variation that combines patsching with the clapping. For instance, you could break up the sets of 5 syllables like this: CCCCC, PPPPP, CCCCC (with C=clap, P=patsch.) An even tougher version might be CCPPP, PPCCC, CCPPP. As is always the case, get your kids in on the creativity and watch the fun grow.
The other new wrinkle we have added to this arrangement is the long "Oh_____" between verses with the decrescendo. It's a great teaching tool, as is the little crescendo during the ending of the piece. And, of course, you can use the tracks to perform the original song B-I-N-G-O. Have fun!
