M.C.'s Boogie
by M.C. Handel/arr. Paul Jennings
The term boogie is one of the most heavily used ones in popular music, and has been for most of the century, dating back to the early boogie woogie pianists. This new CAGE recorder feature hails back to that old tradition, first made popular by big bands like Count Basie's in the 1930s and 1940s. The eighth notes are swung (based on triplets) and there is a strong pulse on beats 2 and 4.
M. C. and P. J. have updated the chord structure for this foot-tapping, fun-loving tune, and while it is great for your beginning recorder players, you may want to join many of our subscribers who also use it for beginning players on other instruments from keyboards to Orff mallet instruments. Note that the section at bar 19 can be opened up for ad lib soloists, as can the last bar of the song. Soloists can alternate by verse or even 2- and 4-bar segments.
