Let's Not Forget
by Teresa Jennings
Earth Day is April 22. Each year, we offer at least one piece of music that can be used to celebrate this all-important day. The message this time is clear and simple: we know what we need to do, let's not forget to do it. (And if you would like a little further inspiration to get in the Earth Day spirit, check out our combination Fact Sheet, Sermon and Resource Guide found on pages 58-59. For further reference material, see the seasonal Index on page 51.)
The gentle piano part is not only playable, but fulfilling for pianists who want to sound good easily. There are a number of "holes" left in the accompaniment for the guitar solo fills, but if you perform the piece live, you can have any solo instrument you like do the fills. Our electric guitarist, Sandy Williams, did a very tasty job of this on the recording and it's worth listening to for the sheer enjoyment of it.
The vocals are unison and easy-going. A slight folk style can be used quite effectively. Listen to the singers on the recording for a good example of style. Consider also using this as a solo piece for a talented singer in your midst. It would lend itself well to this.
