e-Lectricity
by M.C. Handel
This song is unique to us because it is the first song we created entirely in our own mini studio right here at Plank Road! We used all kinds of neat synthesizers and sound effects for the tracks, added our own recorder soloist (Nancy Belongia), and figured out how to record it with the help of über-engineer Dave Price (who usually performs his craft with us in the studios in Indianapolis). The real kudos go to John, who learned, created, sequenced, performed, produced and engineered a bunch all by himself. (Yay, John!) M.C. was extremely happy with the results, and we hope you are, too!
Since it is the last issue of the year, we figured we could throw a bit of a challenge at your players, so we are focusing on high E this time. We think the electric rock beat should help inspire. They will also need to recall the fingerings for B, A, G, and D, so it is a good review as well. And while the divisi at measure 21 is optional, your kids will think it is very cool if they can do it. (One hint: The last figure of the piece on high E is rhythmically a little different, but can be learned easily by remembering "shave and a haircut, two bits.")
One more thing. When players say, "Bzzzt," consider letting them do it at different pitches for variety.
