Old MacDonald Had A Farm
arr. Paul Jennings
For all of you who have told us how much you enjoy our arrangements of children's songs, we bring you this setting of an old favorite. We have limited it to five verses, though you can add as many animals as you like if you are using just piano for accompaniment. We also chose to have the singers do imitations of the animals as opposed to the more traditional "moo, moo" and "quack, quack" approach. Either way is fine, though doing the real sounds within the correct period is sometimes a challenge, but it's one that the kids enjoy.
As we often do in such situations, we left the sounds up to the kids in the studio. We recommend that you let your singers have the same creative option. For still more creativity, consider doing a "zoo" version, using five zoo animals and their sounds. (Hey, what sound does an anteater make?) You could even do an endangered animal rendition for Earth Day, or a regional version featuring just animals from your county or state.
