Crocodile Guy Skit/Whacky Song
by Teresa Jennings
We have rapidly discovered that Boomwhackers® are favorite instruments for kids of all ages. They also lend themselves very nicely to the theme of our revue, Lighten Up. What could be more light and fun than playing a Boomwhacker®?
This little ditty is simple for singers, to be sure. The lyrics are nonsense, repetitious and silly, so you could even let your youngest singers join in. The real challenge of the piece is the Boomwhacker® performance. There are two parts labeled percussion 1 and percussion 2 on the piano/vocal score. Either part can be played by Boomwhacker® and/or marimbas, xylos, or any pitched percussion you want to throw in.
Percussion 2 plays along with the bass line throughout. There is a drum set-up prior to the first measure so that they know when to begin playing. Percussion 1, which is a little simpler rhythmically, only enters at measure 9 each time. Either part is optional. If you have them, consider using bass Boomwhackers® for percussion 2 and regular Boomwhackers® for percussion 1. (Note: The extracted percussion parts are available in the Reproducible Student Parts along with all of the vocal parts for the recorded songs in this issue. Call us or visit our web site for more details.)
The accompaniment for this song is playable with just piano, though if you have a drummer and/or other rhythm section players, it would be easier for your students to follow the beat. Perhaps a solid, steady cowbell playing quarter notes would also do the trick.
