Sitting Around The Campfire
by Teresa Jennings
Do you have any budding young guitarists in your midst? If so, let them pull out their guitars and strum along with this lighthearted campfire tune. Our engineer, Mike Wilson, brought his guitar and added a few tracks to guitarist Sandy Williams' tracks for fun!
As you have probably noticed, this is a partner song. Part 1 sings first, then part 2. The third time through, the two sing together, making lovely harmony. Simple as pie. As are the melodies and lyrics. You can almost smell the marshmallows roasting over the flames.
This is also a good tool for teaching beginning part singing. The second part is slightly more challenging than the first, but both are singable. Combine classes, or let some older students or teachers sing along, too.
For a performance, build a mock campfire and sit around it while singing. Even if you don't have real guitarists, let some students hold guitars and pretend to strum. Add some musical spoons or tambourines, if you like.
