A Gift For Santa
by Teresa Jennings
Here's a cute little holiday ditty for your young ones. Even if you use it with older students, add a few very young ones to the mix for that "awww" effect in performance. It would be especially nice if you could have a younger person for the spoken solos. Our solos were spoken by Grace Morgan who demonstrates youthful inflection very nicely on the recording.
Try to get your singers to enunciate the words clearly so that the story is understood. On the word "hug," have them wrap their arms around themselves in a mock hug for emphasis. At the end of the piece, have someone enter wearing a Santa Claus suit. This could be a student, teacher, parent, etc. He should be waving to the audience, oblivious to the "gift" he is about to receive. As soon as everyone shouts "Hey, Santa!," some or all of them run to him and hug him. He laughs in that jolly Santa way, hugs them back, and waves to everyone, including the audience, and exits. Performers should respond gleefully, waving back and saying goodbye freely.
