My Popcorn
by Anne & David Ellsworth
More than just a simple song about popcorn, this little tune reinforces the importance of sharing! As always in a primary tune, the melody is very simple and easy to learn for your youngest singers.
The first and last eight measures of the music are instrumental and can be used for movement. Let students do their best "popping" imitations during these sections. Additionally, to emphasize the sharing aspect, have them point to themselves when singing "my" and to each other when singing "your."
Of course, while they are learning and singing the song, you could actually be popping some popcorn, too. (We did this ourselves in the studio for the section at measure 17. It's not every day we get to eat the source of our sound effects!) Share your popcorn after the song, not during. Trying to eat and sing at the same time is not a good idea.
