A Whacky Time
by Teresa Jennings
This funky tune would work best using two groups of Boomwhackers® - regular and bass, though that's optional. The regular ones can do part 1 (which includes clapping to keep them on their reading toes!). It's meant to be more melodic and chordal. The bass BWs read part 2 and are more part of the groove, mostly doubling what the electric bass does. The two parts are broken out for ease of reading, but appear together (page 55).
The vocal parts are, well, whacky. Meant to be sung in a chest voice, they follow the melody with the horn band on the recording for the choruses. For the verse, they break into the silly stuff, allowing pauses for sound effects. These effects should be performed by various soloists. The trick is doing them in tempo. Listen to our soloists for how it should fit together. Let yours imitate or dream up their own versions of the effects. Also consider letting them entirely substitute their own lyrics and effects for both verses. Keep it whacky!
