The instrumentation is comprised entirely of a rhythm section (guitar, bass, piano, and drums) with percussion and a guitar feature. A dropped 3rd or 5th (a blue note) in the vocal line is what gives this style of music its distinctive sound; in this case a dropped 3rd. Pedagogically speaking, one should "bend" toward a blue note and, actually, overshoot it ever so slightly. It comes quite naturally, so you don't have to make a big deal of it.
