Easter Bunny Blues
by Teresa Jennings
During the first eight measures of the tenor saxophone solo at measure 21 would be an excellent time to add a bit of movement activity to this song. The beat is so compelling, you may wish to let your students move freely to express their own rhythmic instincts. If, however, you'd prefer to choreograph the movement, here is one possibility:
- first measure
- beat 1: hop backward one step
- beat 2: clap
- beat 3: hop backward one step
- beat 4: clap
- second measure
- Make "bunny ears" with index fingers on top on head. On beats 1, 2, and 3 either hop with the beat (hop, hop, hop) or just bounce with the beat and let the "ears" do the movement by curling and uncurling the index fingers with each beat. Rest on beat 4.
- third and fourth measures
- Repeat first and second measures.
- fifth measure
- beat 1:hop to the left one step
- beat 2: clap
- beat 3: hop to the left one step
- beat 4: clap
- sixth measure
- Hop, hop, hop, with bunny ears as before.
- Rest on beat 4.
- seventh measure
- beat 1: hop to the right one step
- beat 2: clap
- beat 3: hop to the right one step
- beat 4: clap
- eighth measure
- Hop, hop, hop with bunny ears as before.
- Rest on beat 4.
