Me Gusta Mi Escuela
by Mike Wilson
Here's a short, simple tune to teach your kids some conversational Spanish. Though Spanish in purpose, the song is strictly American flavored in a two-beat "boomchick" style. Fully orchestrated, the lively arrangement keeps things moving right along. The message is positive - I like my school, friends, and teacher.
You have lots of performance options on this one. There are two verses with the same lyrics and two vocal parts. Part one sings the Spanish line and part two echoes with the translation. You can split up your kids in the way that best suits your choir. We chose to have a group sing part one with soloists singing part two on the first verse, and then reversed the process for verse two. Our group learned this very easily and, as you will hear, was able to "kick it up a notch" energy-wise.
Take some time beforehand to go over the pronunciation guide which we have included as a free online extra. (See details below.) Or if you're fortunate to have Hispanic children in your classroom, ask them to help teach the others, and give them center stage for the performance.
