Sing We Now Of Christmas
adapted/arr. John Riggio
We've taken this traditional French carol and added a bit of drama and excitement with our fast moving Celtic groove. The song uses traditional lyrics (so it should be safe for classroom use) and sings as you know it, with a couple of additions. During the four bar penny whistle and fiddle motif at measure 15 is a "Sing Noel!" phrase that will be new to you. Likewise, from measure 19 to the end is new material, which has been coined the Carmina Burana section by one of our Plankers. (Did we mention we have some silly employees here at Casa de Plank?)
It should be noted that while vocal part 2 is optional, it sounds very nice, as does the divisi in part 1, so if your troops can swing it, it will make your performance that much more impressive. Be sure to pay attention to dynamics, as it makes a big impact from measure 9 to 13. At measure 19 be sure to accent the notes, and separate them slightly.
This song would lend itself to Celtic dance very well, so if you have any students with those gifts and someone who can choreograph, you can create a very dramatic presentation. We highly recommend using our recorded tracks for this, as they are excellent quality and have a set tempo and length, which is often useful to dancers.
