A Silly Holiday Song
by Teresa Jennings
Here's a real crowd-pleaser, whether your "crowd" is an audience or your own students! Part vaudeville and part jazz band, it's short and simple to sing, but promises to cause a few giggles along the way. The lyrics really are quite silly as the title suggests. But it's the jokes that will tickle your students' funny bones. You will note that we have included two sets of three jokes during the instrumental interlude at measure 13 each time. The way we did this was to use one kid to ask a question and a different kid to answer it. You could use the same kid if you prefer. We also mixed it up so that every line had a unique speaker. But you could use just one or two comedians to do it all. If timing seems to be a problem, cut back on the number of jokes from three to two. And to really make it fun, let your students do their own jokes instead. Approved by you, of course. (Although we feel you would be challenged to find one as cute as the Wenceslas joke. That was everyone's favorite here followed closely by what the snowman smelled.)
