Oh, Happy Birthday!
by Teresa Jennings
We were asked to write yet another birthday song because well, you just can't have too many, can you? This time, it's a little, um... different. It's a charming and odd little tune. Very sparse and repetitive, yet still quite interesting, we found it memorable and fun to perform.
If you happen to have older or more advanced students capable of singing some or all of the background vocals (parts 2 and 3, lovingly dubbed the "ba's"), great. If not, you can absolutely do this tune without them. In fact, we designed it so you could do it with your whole school using just unison if you wanted. Just pick whichever tracks you prefer - with or without the ba's. Ambitious groups could also do it all a cappella, also with or without some or all of the ba's. Its simplicity is so elegant, you can quite literally mix and match what you want to use.
We have isolated the vocals for learning purposes and put them on our web site. See below for details.
