Bring A Torch, Jeanette, Isabella

adapted/arr. Karl Hitzemann

The melody for this French carol dates all the way back to the 14th century. It has been a favorite of many for a long, long time. Our arrangement has a bright, gentle feel to it. The recorded accompaniment features piano, bass, harp, and strings. The piano part we've provided would work nicely for a totally live performance. And if you go that route, it might be nice to have a couple of your students join in with finger cymbals and/or a triangle.

This song would be a natural for using Kandle Lights™ (or any battery operated candle/light). At the last four bars of the song, after the singers stop and as the accompaniment comes to an end, you could have your choir slowly bow their heads and "extinguish" (turn off) their candles. It would make for a quiet, peaceful moment. If you're not able to use sacred Christmas carols in your program, you might consider using the accompaniment track as background music, or you could have your group sing the melody on an "ooh."
