Pumpkin Pie Polka
by John Riggio
Yes, it's another silly food-related song from your friends at Plank Road. And what's more, it's a polka, so you can't be sad singing it! In keeping with holiday tradition, we're singing about pumpkin pie, except at this meal we start with the pie.
The song is sung three times beginning at measure 3. The third time, go to the coda when you see the "to coda" sign. The optional part 2 isn't sung the first time. The last note is an optional divisi between parts 1 and 2, so if you only sing one note, it should be the C.
Also, you're going to need an actor or two for the spoken lines. When performing this song live, at the coda one of your actors should walk out with a piece of pie on a plate, point to it, and with mouth full, speak the line "Say, this is pretty good!" If you're listening to the performance recording of this song, that's what our actress Brynn Stebbe is saying. It's tough to understand, but funny nonetheless, and will make more sense when accompanied by the visual action.
Just for fun, as part of the accompaniment recording, our peanut gallery singers (John and Karl) sing the phrase "Have to, got to, can't not eat that pie!" just before the repeat both times. (Thanks, fellas!) We even included it on the web extra of part 2, which we isolated for you. (See details following.)
