If I have a few minutes at the end of class, I often will quickly hang up a poster I made of the C major scale, play the scale, then go back and isolate one note. The kids get to guess which one I played by its letter, and I give clues of "too high" or "too low." When someone guesses correctly, they get to line up first. This usually keeps everyone pretty focused and listening.
