Our school-wide theme last year was "Dive Into Reading," so anything nautical was encouraged. My main bulletin board had a laminated starfish with a headline that said, "Seymour Starfish says, 'To be a STAR, when singing:
Stand
Tall
And
Relaxed.' "
The S, T, A, and R capitals were die-cut from different colors of construction paper, so they would stand out from the background.
Another bulletin board I made was one of a pond background with die-cut swimming fish. The headline was "Dive In." I would change out these fish shapes periodically to fit whatever the monthly theme might be. Sometimes they framed pictures or made a place to display music notational symbols, etc. You can also crinkle bulletin board paper to create coral reef reliefs or seaweed sculptures to give your bulletin boards a 3-D element.
