Twice a year, I take my fifth and sixth grade singers (audition group) to sing for a senior citizens group, the Lions Club, or another civic gathering. Since we are located in an army base area, the theme is usual patriotic. Our principal never charges us the usually fieldtrip bus fee, as he delights in the PR!
The host group feeds the kids; they interact and always make a grand impression! I have the singers write thank you notes the following week.
During "Music In Our Schools Month" (MIOSM), the PreK - 3rd grade classes host "Visit Our Music Class!" Over 80 parents, grandparents, and friends join us in a regularly scheduled class that week. While an on-stage program would allow only two songs per grade, each class participating in the MIOSM event enjoys 25 minutes of singing, signing, instruments, and movement. Parents even sign up to help with upcoming programs!
